Endoscopic Brow Lift

A brow lift surgically corrects drooping eyebrows and softens worried or angry expressions that result from frown lines. This will improve the focal point of the face and give the eyes a brighter, fresher, more youthful look.

Sagging of the eyebrow and forehead is one of the early signs of ageing. The brow may descend and seem to lie on the eyelashes resulting in an appearance of excess eyelid skin. A brow lift surgically corrects drooping eyebrows and softens worried or angry expressions that result from frown lines, improving the focal point of the face and gives eyes a brighter, fresher, more youthful look.

Modern brow and forehead lift is minimally invasive and can be done through small incisions hidden inside the hairline using special instruments attached to an endoscopic camera (Endoscopic brow lift), or through a blepharoplasty (surgery for baggy lids) incision that is hidden in the natural lid skin crease (Trans-bleph brow lift). The most suitable type of surgery is decided after a consultation with your surgeon.

During an Endoscopic brow lift, commonly performed on men and women between the ages of 35 and 70, the surgeon elevates the skin and underlying tissues of the upper face, and may remove part of the muscle that causes frown lines between the brows.

Because of the smaller incisions, endoscopic brow lift patients usually experience less of the itching sensation and temporary scalp numbness felt by patients who have had the open technique. In addition, endoscopic brow lift patients may feel ready to return to normal activities sooner.

Brow lifts are sometimes combined with other procedures such as blepharoplasty and mid face lift to optimise the surgical result.

If you have sagging eyebrows that create a tired or sad appearance, deep horizontal creases across your forehead, or frown lines or furrows between your eyebrows, you may be a good brow lift candidate. Patients often complain that their eyes appear to be getting smaller and that their mascara or eyeliner usually ends up high on the upper part of the lids.

The best way to determine if a brow lift is right for you is by a thorough consultation with your surgeon.

Risks of surgery
It’s important to understand there are potential risks inherent in any medical procedure. For example, you may experience discomfort and numbness in the forehead area. In addition, you may be able to feel the endotine device under the skin if one is used during surgery.

Preparing for surgery
Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. Carefully following these instructions will help your surgery go more smoothly.

Types of anaesthesia
Brow lift surgery can be performed under local anaesthesia - which numbs the area around your eyes - along with intravenous sedation (twilight anaesthesia). Some surgeons prefer to use general anaesthesia; in that case, you'll sleep through the operation.

The surgery
The endoscopic brow lift technique uses a small, pencil-like camera device connected to a television monitor. The endoscope is inserted into several small, a half inch to one inch incisions placed just behind the hairline, providing the surgeon with a clear view of the muscles and tissues beneath the skin. Once the eyebrows are raised to their desired height, an endotine device is inserted under the scalp tissue, securely holding the tissue in place. The incision is then closed, and the device is left in place, where it eventually absorbs.

The procedure typically takes between one and two hours.

After surgery
Immediately after surgery, you will experience some temporary swelling and bruising in your eyebrow and forehead areas, which may last for up to 10 days. You may also experience mild discomfort at the surgical site, which is typically controlled with doctor-prescribed oral medications. You can usually take a shower and wash your hair a few days later.

We would recommend that you take 10 - 14 days off work to aid your full and speedy recovery.

Getting back to normal
Most patients recover from traditional brow lift surgery in about 4 weeks. Recovery time can be even faster with endoscopic brow lift surgery.

The new look
If you’re like most brow lift patients, you’ll be very pleased with your refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. Although it may take several months to see the final results, you’ll probably agree that your new look was worth the wait.
